In a year long project, second graders have adopted two trees. We examine our trees four times a year and note seasonal changes.

Gingerbread House Building

In December, we created out own gingerbread houses after reading Hansel and Gretel and The Gingerbread Baby. We used our knowledge of pattern-making and 3-D shapes to design a house on paper, and then transferred the design to a real gingerbread house. We had lots of help from families who donated supplies, and volunteers who assisted us in our creations.

An Object that Triggers a Memory

After reading Wilfred Gordon McDonald Partridge by Mem Fox, some children brought in an object that takes them back to a time in their past and told a story to the class.
