Performance Series Testing

Students in third, fourth and fifth grades will be participating in Performance Series testing for the next two weeks.  Students will be tested in reading, language arts and math.  These test scores will give classroom teachers valuable information about a student's current functioning and it will also help drive instruction in the classroom.  Tthe Performance Series tests will be given again two more times during the school year.  This additional information will help teachers determine if adequate progress has been made.  For further information about Performance Series testing give the school a call and ask for Mr. Inthirathvongsy.

The 2006-2007 Cobb County testing calendar will be posted shortly.

Where in Powers Ferry?

Attention students, as you are walking through the halls, use your observation skills and figure out where in Powers Ferry these two pictures where taken.  The first student to submit the correct answers (both must be correct!) to Mr. I will receive a prize.  Use your keen observation skills and good luck!

Bus Riding Privileges

Magic_bus_2

Parents and students:

Remember that riding a Cobb County school bus is a privilege.  Most of our students do a fantastic job of following bus rules such as:

1.  Staying seated at all times.

2.  Talking at normal levels, without yelling or screaming.

3.  Keeping all body parts inside the school bus.

4.  Following instructions given by the bus driver.

Unfortunately, some students have occasional difficulty following these safety rules.  If there is a repeated pattern of unruly bus behavior for any student a bus suspension will occur.  If bus suspensions are ineffective in stopping misbehaviors, students may possibly have all bus riding privileges revoked.

Please remind your children that proper bus riding behaviors are crucial to their own safety and the safety of all other students on the bus.

Car Rider Registration

Car In order to facilitate a safe and efficient car rider dismissal procedure, Powers Ferry uses a number system.  Parents MUST register thier child(ren) as a car rider.  Each parent will be assigned a number along with a printed number card.  The card should be displayed on the driver side windshield.  There will be teachers to assist with getting children into the vehicles, so parents are to remain in their cars.  Students will not be dismissed to cars without a number card displayed.  If a number card is lost, parents must park and come into the office and show identification to have a replacement made.  This procedure is a safe and effective means to get our children home safely. Bring the completed registration form back to the front office to receive your number card.  Thank you for all your cooperation!

Blogging training

Schoolfront A group of us are receiving training on creating and maintaining an individual blog.  Some of the examples that we saw from other elementary and middle schools are very extensive and thorough, while others remain true to the original blog concept of minimal graphics with an emphasis on the author's thoughts and ideas.  I am very excited about starting my own blog to document my own learning and struggles as a beginning administrator
