Welcome to First Grade!

Greetings! I am Ms. Sheffield, a first-grade teacher at Powers Ferry Elementary School.  I'm excited to have created my first weblog!  I have worked with children for over 20 years, and first-graders are my favorite.  When I'm not working, I like to read, cook, and visit my friends and family.  I have two children of my own...Tessa and David.  They are "grown ups" now (so they tell me), so I have a lot of free time to create fun activities for my "kids" at school.  Ask my former students about playing Fear Factor, CRCT Edition!  I look forward to many more years of teaching young minds to read and most importantly, to love to learn!  You can contact me at marsha.sheffield@cobbk12.org

Welcome to a New School Year!

I'm so excited about this 2007-08 school year!  We have already done so many fun things, all while we are learning. 

I hope that your child will create many wonderful memories during first grade.  We do learn a lot, but we have a great time doing so.  Feel free to drop by our classroom and see what we're up to.

Starfall  This is a GREAT interactive language arts site for students.  They can practice phonics and reading skills and can even create their own theme-related papers to create stories on. 

Math Facts

First graders will work hard to learn all of the addition facts from 0-18.  Here are a few links that will allow your child to practice these facts at home.  Although I am careful to preview all links to avoid any unwanted content reaching your child, please do so again as you connect from home.
